Openers put Pakistan in command against England

A solid opening stand of 114 runs from openers Mohammad Hafeez and Taufiq Umar helped Pakistan take command against England on the second day of the first Test here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Both openers scored half-centuries while providing century partnership which was the fifth between them. 

Pakistan resumed their first innings this morning at 42-0 and added 96 runs in the first session as they were 138-2 at lunch. They were 54 runs behind England’s 192 in the first innings with eight wickets in hand.

Mohammad Hafeez remained unbeaten on 70 and Younis Khan was not out on six while Taufiq Umar was bowled by Stuart Broad for 58 and Azhar Ali was caught behind by Matt Prior off Broad for just one.

Broad the only successful bowler for England claimed two wickets for 55 runs.
