Pakistan take lead over England in first innings

Pakistan succeeded in gaining a lead of 21 runs over England in the first innings as they reached 213-4 with six wickets remaining at tea on the second day of the opening Test here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

The four batsmen who made exit were Taufiq Umar (58), Azhar Ali (one), Mohammad Hafeez (88) and Younis Khan (37).

The batsmen at the crease were skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (20) and Asad Shafiq (5).

Earlier, paceman Stuart Broad struck twice to help England check Pakistan's progress after their openers put on a century stand.

The 24-year-old, who survived a foot injury on the eve of the match, provided his team the breakthrough after Mohammad Hafeez and Taufiq Umar hit attractive half-centuries to bolster Pakistan's chances of taking a big lead.

Pakistan were 138-2 at lunch, with Hafeez on 70 and Younis Khan unbeaten on six, as they trail England's first innings total of 192 by 54 runs.
